New partnerships accelerate adoption of FIWARE-based\u00a0solutions<\/p>\n

Tokyo, Japan &<\/strong>\u3000<\/strong>Noida, India,\u00a027April, 2018<\/span>\u00a0–\u00a0<\/strong>NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) and NEC Technologies India Private Limited (NECTI) today announced the launch of a FIWARE Lab node in India to encourage application developers,\u00a0solution providers, government bodies and academia to experiment and innovate\u00a0withFIWARE based solutions for smart cities. The new facility\u00a0is expected to result in greater\u00a0FIWARE development\u00a0within Asia,as now all experiment and research data\u00a0can be kept\u00a0within the boundaries of the region.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with the launch of the new facility, NECTI signed Memorandums\u00a0of Understanding (MoU)with partners\u00a0that include\u00a0Tech Mahindra, Hughes Systique and Mobilepediain order\u00a0to explore collaboration on joint development of FIWARE-based solutions.<\/p>\n

\n

“The\u00a0FIWARE Lab node in India managed by NEC\u00a0enables\u00a0companies developing smart city\u00a0solutions for India to keep their experiment data within India. FIWARE brings in royalty free standards for interfaces and data models\u00a0that\u00a0help\u00a0to\u00a0integrate applications easily,\u00a0which can be an edge over others for the smart cityopportunities in India,\u201d said Mr. Ulrich Ahle, CEO of FIWARE Foundation through a video message during the launch event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the launch of the FIWARE Lab Node, we provide ideal environment for verification of application based on the most recent and prominent container technology on the latest OpenStack platform. I firmly believe this will help application developers, solution providers and many others develop innovative solutions for Smart Cities,\u201d said Mr. Naoki Hashitani, Senior Vice President, System Integration, Services & Engineering Operations Unit, NEC Corporation.\u201cWe will promote the growth and expansion of FIWARE platform in India by introduce insights and know-how we have obtained from our FIWARE related Smart City projects around the world, including Spain, New Zealand and Portugal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

The NEC Group aims to achieve revenues of more than 150M USD from India and other parts of South East Asia by fiscal year 2020 through FIWARE-based solutions aided by the FIWARE Lab node. Since last year, NECTI has built a capacity of 100 engineers in FIWARE and related IoT and\u00a0smart\u00a0city\u00a0solutions and plans to enhance this to 250 engineers in the next year.<\/p>\n

NEC welcomes organizations, entrepreneurs and individuals to utilize this lab for learning FIWARE, as well as to test their applications while capitalizing on Open Data published by cities and other organizations.<\/p>\n

During the inauguration event held today, more than 20 companies and organizationswererepresented, including Tech Mahindra, Hughes Systiqueand\u00a0Mobilepedia, expressing their strong interest\u00a0in\u00a0working\u00a0with NEC on\u00a0the development of\u00a0solutions using FIWARE.<\/p>\n

\u201cMobilepedia congratulates NEC on launching\u00a0a\u00a0FIWARE\u00a0Lab node in India. This will give a big boost to standards based smart solutions in India and will go a long way in bringing like-minded companies together to collaborate and create innovative solutions\u00a0for smart cities. Mobilepedia is the first non-European Gold member of FIWARE, and\u00a0the\u00a0first company in India to deploy FIWARE based solutions\u00a0in any Indian Smart city. We are willing to explore\u00a0the possibility to\u00a0collaborate with NEC Technologies India on various smart city solutions,\u201d said Mr. Mukul Mahajan, Director, Mobilepedia.<\/p>\n

NEC is a platinum member of the FIWARE Foundation. NEC was the first Japan-originatedCompany to join the Foundation and has joined the board of directors and technical steering committee of the FIWARE Foundation, the foundation’s decision-making authorities, thereby contributing to development, standardization and promotion of the FIWARE technology to accelerate smart city and smart industry businesses utilizing IoT.<\/p>\n

The FIWARE Lab node, which is part of the FIWARE community, is a non-commercial sandbox environment where innovation and experimentation based on FIWARE technologies will take place. The lab node will be hosting Internet of Things\u00a0(IoT)\u00a0and\u00a0smart\u00a0city\u00a0solutions\u00a0for\u00a0India and Asian countries.
