MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION WORKSHOP (MCW-2018) – 26-27, JULY 2018<\/p>\n

The Department of Chemistry, SRM Institute of Science and Technology,Kattankulathur, organized a two day Materials Characterization workshop (MCW-2018)<\/strong>on 26-27th<\/sup> July 2018 to provide<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>a conceptual overview of major analytical techniques for materials characterization with demonstration on selected techniques. The workshop had 200 participants from different places across the country.<\/p>\n

The inaugural function was held on 26th<\/sup> July 2018. Dr. M. Arthanareeswari<\/strong>, convenor MCW 2018 and Head of the Department of Chemistry welcomed the delegates. The chief guest Dr.A. Ramesh<\/strong>, Director IIBT (Padappai) has inaugurated the workshop and\u00a0 in his inaugural address he shared his deep insights on the role of characterization techniques in crop protection and discovery research. He emphasized on the importance of the techniques for furthering sustainable global agriculture. This was followed by talksof Dr.UjjalGautam<\/strong> (IISER Mohali), Prof.A. Sundaresan<\/strong>(JNCASR, Bengaluru), M. Eswaramoorthy<\/strong> (JNCASR, Bengaluru),\u00a0 Dr.Kaniska Biswas<\/strong>(JNCASR, Bengaluru), Prof. P. Ramamurthy <\/strong>(NCUP, Chennai), Prof. A. R Kulkarni<\/strong>(IIT Bombay) and Dr. Paul Davis<\/strong> (Shell Technology Center, Bengaluru).\u00a0 This was followed by demonstration of sophisticatedinstruments such as XRD, HRMS, TEM, BET and impedance measurements were done with the help of dynamic volunteers.<\/p>\n

The work shop was very much fruitful to the\u00a0 participants to understand the concepts behind the charactization techniques and to use them to interpret their research results.<\/p>\n
