Cancer survivors honoured on Independence Day
\nChennai, August, 2019: Freedom from Cancer Relief and Research Foundation in association with Saveetha Medical Center today organized a cancer awareness event – \u2018Conquer 2019\u2019. Around 200 cancer survivors including children participated in the event. The event was organized to honour the cancer conquerors. During the celebration, cancer survivors including children participated in various cultural performances. The funds raised from this event will be utilized in spreading cancer awareness and cancer treatment for the underprivileged children.
\nThe chief guests of the event were Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP State President and Mr. Ameer, Director and Actor. The event was presided by Dr N.M. Veeraiyan, Founder & Chancellor – Saveetha Institute of Medical And Technical Sciences.
\nSpeaking on the occasion Prof. Dr Anita Ramesh, Professor Medical Oncology, Saveetha Medical College Hospital & Founder and CEO – Freedom from Cancer Relief and Research Foundation said, \u201cEvery year, we gather our well-wishers to celebrate the spirit of cancer survivors. These celebrations provide an opportunity for survivors to converse, draw support and get advice from others who share similar experience and rejoice. It is an occasion for cancer survivors to come together and celebrate the new reality in cancer survivorship.\u201d
\n\u201cUsually when someone feels their body is undergoing physical uneasiness, they should get it tested immediately. The three commonly occurring cancers in India are those of the breast, uterine cervix and oral cancer. Together, they account for approximately 35% of all cancers in India. Screening is effective in the prevention and early detection of these cancers\u201d added Prof. Dr Anita Ramesh.
\nDr N.M. Veeraiyan, Founder & Chancellor – Saveetha Institute of Medical And Technical Sciences said, \u201cImprovements in the area of molecular genetics has greatly helped both in the early detection and personalized treatment of the disease. People should understand that Cancer is curable and one can lead a normal life after surviving cancer.\u201d
\nSome of the cancer survivors shared their stories of success on their fight against cancer, elaborated on how positive attitude, will power and strong support system played a crucial role in their recovery.
