Chennai, February 21, 2020<\/strong>: Higher education is in the era of conversion; and like\u00a0Albert Einstein notably said, “No problem can be solved by the same kind of thinking that created it.”<\/em>\u00a0Keeping that in mind, along with the changing student demographics and new technologies, Universities are expected to reconsider their curriculum. Design Thinking offers important pathways for shaping these important new models and offers a deliberate, structured process for solving problems and fostering innovation.<\/p>\n

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST), one of the top ranking universities in India, Intellect Design Arena Ltd, a global leader in FinTech which pioneered Design Thinking for cutting-edge products for Banking and Insurance and School of Design Thinking (SoDT); committed to creating awareness in the society at large about Design Thinking as a Human-centered approach, today entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote Design Thinking amongst the faculties and students of SRM IST.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Prof. N. Sethuraman<\/strong>, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D, Registrar, SRM Institute of Science & Technology,\u00a0Dr. Sandeep Sancheti,<\/strong>\u00a0Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science & Technology,\u00a0Mr. Arun Jain,<\/strong>\u00a0Chairman and Managing Director, Intellect Design Arena Ltd and\u00a0Dr. Anbu Rathinavel<\/strong>, Head and Co-founder, School of Design Thinking Pvt. Ltd. graced the occasion and shared the details of the collaboration.<\/p>\n

The collaboration of SRM IST, Intellect and SoDT will help in creating \u2018India’s first-of-its-kind full-fledged Design Center\u2019 in an Educational Institute. Intellect which has launched the 8012 FinTech Design Center – the world’s first Design Center dedicated to Financial Technology, brings its expertise in building the center in SRM IST to train, mentor faculties & students on Design Thinking and also to nurture their entrepreneurial mindset for startup incubation.<\/p>\n

School of Design Thinking has been credited with framing India\u2019s first program on \u2018Design The Thinking\u00ae\u2019 tailor made for the academics and offered from an industry. Its flagship program aims not only to benefit the students in the long run but eventually acts as a Self-Development Program for the faculty members of college. Additionally, SoDT also conducts specific programs for students.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion,\u00a0Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science & Technology said,<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWe are happy to partner with Intellect and School of Design Thinking. We are embracing the principles of transformation by bringing in Design Thinking in our academia.\u00a0 Design Thinking would help students hone the skills and literacies highly valued in today\u2019s world, including the ability to tackle tough challenges and thinking outside the box.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arun Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, Intellect Design Arena Ltd. and an evangelist on Design Thinking said,<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThis association with SRM IST will help inculcate the tenets of Design Thinking which will help shape the leaders of tomorrow. Our objective is to elevate the educational institution\u2019s thinking to be on par with the global institutions, in terms of research, latest pedagogy and creating curiosity in the minds of students. The collaboration with SRM IST will only continue to focus on our indigenous Design Thinking Process & Design Tools; we will also ensure that Design Thinking will become a life-skill to instill a 10x aspiration mindset for the faculty and students alike.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDesign Thinking, a problem-solving approach, is a game-changer; a way to get ahead and stand out in a crowd. It helps answer the question \u2018why\u2019; and once the reason is found, one is at the cusp of a solution, a breakthrough. The ability to change our viewpoint from our own to that of the user \u2014 to visualise, think, and feel what the user is going through is the key to Design Thinking. Basically, unlearn what we have learnt all these years on problem-solving,\u201d says\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Dr. Anbu Rathinavel, Head and Co-founder, School of Design Thinking Pvt. Some of the significant highlights of the collaboration:<\/p>\n

  1. a)Master Trainer Program on Design Thinking and nurturing the entrepreneurial mindset, Faculty Development Programs for SRM IST Faculties and subsequent certification of students by SoDT<\/li>\n
  2. b)Conduct Large Scale Intervention Program for the students currently moving to 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0\/ 4th<\/sup>\u00a0year in an academic year (300 students per batch at institute\u2019s premises)<\/li>\n
  3. c)Conduct 3-credit Design The Thinking\u00ae course for students moving to 1st<\/sup>\u00a0year and 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0year in an academic year subject to SRM IST Academic Council Approval<\/li>\n
  4. d)Providing the required amenities for conducting the course by SRM IST faculties<\/li>\n
  5. e)Sponsoring the Social Impact projects of critical importance, which would be carried out at SRM IST\u2019s Design Thinking Club or at premises of Intellect or partly at SRM IST and partly at Intellect<\/li>\n
  6. f)Interning competent certified students ideating High Impact Projects at SoDT<\/li>\n
  7. g)Select top performers from the Design Thinking Club to be included in i-Innovate program to be conducted by SoDT to nurture and crystallize the entrepreneurial ideas of students<\/li>\n
  8. h)Inculcate the 10X growth mindset for the leadership team<\/li>\n
