The conference showcased the latest advancements in the posterior segment (Vitreo-Retina) ophthalmic surgeries and diagnosis. RETICON served as a networking platform for ophthalmologists and PG students from India and abroad for the exchange of information about the constantly evolving field of retinal disorder management and catalyze further research into the field. The vitreo retinal specialists obtained updates on the recent new development and management of vitreo retinal diseases in this Symposium.

RETICON is an annual conference much sought-after by ophthalmologists due to the quality of speakers as well as the credit points given by the Tamil Nadu Medical Council. This year, the event’s theme was “Navigating the New Normal in Retinal Surgery.” Key speakers included well-known names like Dr. Anand Rajendran, Dr. Atul Dhawan, Dr. Mahesh Shanmugam, Dr. Manoj Khatri, Dr. Murali Ariga, Padmashree Prof Dr. S Natarajan, Dr. Parveen Sen, Dr. Pramod S Bhende and Dr. Vasumathy Vedantham. The sessions revolved around the topics of the medical retina, surgical retina and Vitreo-retinal surgery.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr Amar Agarwal, Chairman, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospitals, said: “The 11th edition of RETICON was a great success, with hundreds of eye surgeons from India and abroad participating to know about the latest innovations in Vitreo-retinal surgery. There are about 15 million blind people in India. The retina is the part of the eye Which is very important for the final vision. If it gets damaged, the vision is automatically affected, hence people above the age of 30 must get their retina checked regularly as retinal diseases are today the major cause of preventable blindness compared to other eye diseases, especially age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic macular edema. Retinal disease can be effectively managed if diagnosed on time, but, unfortunately, retinal diseases get a low priority in blindness prevention programs compared to diseases like cataracts or glaucoma.

He added: “There is low awareness in India about diseases of the retina. This makes the field of retinal surgery extremely important. With rapid medical advances related to retinal diseases, their management and treatment are becoming much more affordable and effective. However, India suffers from an acute shortfall of skilled experts in retinal ophthalmology. The Reticon conference aims to plug this gap by making the latest advancements and innovations available to all retinal surgeons to improve clinical outcomes.”

RETICON: Further Information: https://reticon.in

International Conference on New Normal in Retinal Surgery held in Chennai Video Link :- https://youtu.be/uJ4eGci-6AE Smt.
