The beneficiaries are the mothers to 16 children suffering from Muscular Dystrophy, who are students at the school.<\/p>\n

Ltd.; Ms. Snehalatha,Joint Director, Women\u2019s Development Corporation \u00a0; <\/b>and Dr. Vishwanathan, President, Muscular Dystrophy ;Mrs. Celin Paul, NGO, Mrs. Jasmine, DDRO, Mrs. Rohini, AEO, Chennai Corporation and Mrs. Ramani, Treasurer \u00a0<\/b>gave away the sewing machines to the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R. Ramachanthran <\/b>said, \u201cNo amount of support, monetary or otherwise, can bring down the pain of the parents of children suffering from muscular dystrophy. We may know that <\/i>it is a genetic disease that leads to progressive weakness and degeneration of muscles, restricting the patient’s movement. But knowing a disease and living it are two different things. These children needs complete care throughout the day. The machines provided are given to the mothers of the affected children for them to earn a livelihood for themselves<\/i>.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/i>The School for Muscular Dystrophy started functioning from August 2009. This initiative of the Chennai Corporation, in consultation with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), seeks to provide a suitable ambience for children, making available services such as physiotherapy and speech therapy.<\/p>\n
