Chandrasekaran, 47, the managing director of R.C. Golden Granites, Chennai has gifted the 3.5-tonne statue carved out of black granite to Dr. Ishari K Ganesh, Chancellor , Vels University.<\/p>\n<p>The Chennai based granite firm spent $25,000 (Rs.1.2 million) in sculpting the 10 feet high and 5.5 feet width statue out of a single block of huge rock that was quarried from a mine near Kanakpura, about 50 km from Bangalore.<\/p>\n<p>They employed six artisans to chisel the granite into Jackson\u2019s shape in 45 days at the factory in Kancheepuram. As black granite is brittle, the aesthetic art work was a test of patience, diligence and skill.<\/p>\n<p>This statue was inaugurated at the Vels University campus on the 7<sup>th<\/sup> April, 2016 at 10:00 a.m at the Vels campus by none other than the mercurial dancer and who is known as the Michael Jackson of India, Mr. Prabhu Deva &#8211; Choreographer, Actor, Director and Producer on the concluding day of the 2-day Seminar on Film making \u201cVels Film craft\u201d .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seven years after his death in 2009, Michael Jackson remains etched in the hearts of millions of fans \u2013 and also in the full size statue of the \u201cKing of Pop\u201d in black granite , carved by RC Golden Granites Ltd, Chennai.
