\"CCC22<\/a>Chennai-19th June 2016 ( Sunday ) : Chennai Trekking Club hand together with MNC’s and \u00a0IT People started Plastic Free Chennai Coastal Service. totally 10 thousand members were registered for this nobel service, 8 thousand people were cleaned on 14 coastal venues. Chennai Coastal Clean Up – 7 \u00a0members , Marks & Spensers 40 members co ordinated by Mr. Rajesh, Mr.Kamalesh, Mr.K.Paul, Ms.Jessy, Tech Mahindra 150 members co ordinated by Mr.Vaidyanathanand more were assembled\u00a0\u00a0at 5.30am, warmed up 3o mins and started clean up work and made the event very successfully.<\/div>\n

\"CCC23\"<\/a>Find below unique moments captured on Sunday showing the spirit of our green army while clean sweeping our troubled Chennai coastline. Most of the garbage found on the beaches is\u00a0YOURS\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0MINE\u00a0<\/b>dumped near lakes and water bodies which eventually – through storm drains and rivers – flows to the ocean and anything that floats (plastic, thermocoil, cheppels, closed glass bottles) ends up back on our beaches. This is just the\u00a0tip\u00a0<\/b>of the iceberg – what lies beyond the seas is beyond our imagination… Definitely a\u00a0WAKE UP CALL\u00a0<\/b>for all of us to start\u00a0REDUCING\u00a0<\/b>our garbage footprint by starting to\u00a0SEGREGATE\u00a0<\/b>wet (kitchen waste, food) to be composted and dry (plastic, glass, paper, metal) to be recycled through your neighborhood kadibawala.<\/div>\n

\"CCC24<\/a>A small step for each of us, a huge impact together – every day Chennai generates 6000 tonnes of mixed toxic garbage which gets dumped on our beautiful Palikarnai marsh land, a (supposedly) protected wet-land and sensitive ecosystem. Let us all make a pledge to\u00a0SAY NO\u00a0<\/b>to single-use plastics (polythene covers, glass bottles, paper\/plastic cups, straws) which are used for a mere few seconds\/minutes as matter of convenience and then get dumped and lie around for hundreds of years causing severe damage to our beautiful green planet (and our own health).\u00a0CHANGE\u00a0<\/b>has to start from within\u00a0US<\/b>!<\/div>\n

The Chennai Trekking Club (CTC) is a non-profit, volunteer based group which organizes outdoor, sports, green and social events throughout the year on weekends and weekday mornings. Founded in 2008 the group is one of the most active and largest in South India with 27 thousand members and featured in 200+ news articles<\/a>. CTC organizes a wide diversity of outdoor and sports activities to promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Activities include trekking, cycling, running<\/a>, open water swimming<\/a>, biking, photography, educational workshops, ladies & family treks. Major annual events include the Chennai Trail Marathon<\/a>,Javadhu Hill Ultra<\/a> and Chennai Iron Triathlon<\/a>. Ainthinai<\/a>, CTC’s green wing, organizes frequent environmental conservationactivities<\/a> including tree \u00a0plantations & maintenance, organic farming, cleanups in beaches, lakes, rivers, workshops on\u00a0sustainability, terrace farming, tree walks and more. Each year CTC organizes the Chennai Coastal\u00a0<\/a>Cleanup<\/a> and Green Day<\/a> – a major awareness campaign on sustainability. We have an active green team in Pondichery<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CTC also engages in many social activities including our Chennai Red Knights<\/a> (blood donations), social\u00a0<\/a>treks<\/a> for the less privileged and our CESAW group<\/a> who creates awareness on environment and social topics\u00a0through flash mobs and street plays. CTC was very involved in rescue, relief and rehabilitation during\u00a0the Dec 2015 Chennai \/ Cuddalore floods.<\/p>\n

CTC organizes regular free workshops<\/a> on various topics including map reading and navigation,\u00a0photography, snakes, first aid and various aspects of sustainable living. Each year CTC organizes a\u00a0major symposium “Trek Polamaa?<\/a>” where renowed guest speakers come to give inspirational talks on various\u00a0topics related to outdoors, sports, nature and environment.<\/div>\n

CTC is a place where like-minded, nature loving and outdoor passionate souls come together in a open,\u00a0volunteering environment, overcoming challenges together as a team, breaking out of oneself physical and\u00a0mental boundaries, coming out as friends for life and recharged human beings with a different\u00a0perspective on life.
