Chennai\u2019s popular \u2018Amma Canteen\u2019 has become an instant hit with Delhiites on the first day of its three-day sojourn at the Tamil Nadu Bhawan here.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Visitors who came to attend Pongal celebrations thronged the \u2018Amma Canteen\u2019 stall and jostled for their serving of hot, lip-<a href=\"http:\/\/faceinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/amma211213.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-379 alignleft\" alt=\"amma211213\" src=\"http:\/\/faceinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/amma211213-300x146.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.faceinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/amma211213-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.faceinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/amma211213.jpg 472w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>smacking\u00a0idlis\u00a0along with usual accompaniments sambar and coconut chutney.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>While\u00a0idli\u00a0was the most sought-after dish on the menu, there was also good demand for other items such as curd-rice (priced at Rs.3 per plate), lemon-rice, curry leaves-rice and\u00a0pongal\u00a0\u2014 a dish similar to the north Indian\u00a0khichdi(for Rs.5 each).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The low-cost delicacies sold like hot cakes with the stalls running out of food before 8 p.m., nearly an hour before the scheduled closing time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Till 7.30 p.m., nearly 2,200 servings of all items were dished out and theorganisers\u00a0raised a sum of Rs.7,200.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On bringing the canteen to the Capital temporarily, Principal Resident Commissioner at Tamil Nadu House said: \u201cPongal is one of the main festivals in Tamil Nadu and we celebrate it here as well. Each year, it is our\u00a0endeavourto showcase what is popular in Tamil Nadu.
