JOHANNESBURG<\/em>\u00a0–\u00a0Cricket South Africa<\/a>\u00a0(CSA) has confirmed the appointment of experienced sports management professional, Russell Adams, as the Tournament Director for the T20 Global League (#T20GL).<\/p>\n

The Cape Town-born Adams, is well known to the global cricket fraternity, bringing years of international cricketing and sports management experience to the new #T20GL which will kick off in November this year.<\/p>\n

Previous to this role, Adams has been based in India for the last nine years where he served as the Vice President of Commercial, Operations and Cricket Academy for the\u00a0Royal Challengers Bangalore<\/a>\u00a0(RCB).Before this role, he worked as a consultant to the\u00a0Kolkata Knight Riders<\/a>\u00a0(KKR). He has gained valuable event management experience working on all ten IPL tournaments, as well as the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Adams is no stranger to the local cricket industry and has racked up impressive experience through stints with various South African sports teams. He has served as Cricket Manager at the\u00a0Western Province Cricket Association<\/a>\u00a0(WPCA), Team\u00a0and Operations Manager of the\u00a0Cape Cobras<\/a>\u00a0cricket franchise, and was appointed the Project Manager at\u00a0Newlands Cricket Ground<\/a>\u00a0for the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 South Africa tournament in 2007.<\/p>\n

He also worked as Logistics Manager at the 2003\u00a0Cricket World Cup<\/a>\u00a0in South Africa.Prior to that Adams spent over 20 yearson the ground as a club cricketer, coach, Secretary and Manager at WPCA.<\/p>\n

Adams who starts in his new role in August, is looking forward to returning to South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to this new chapter in my career and to be given the opportunity to be part of the excitingT20 Global League,\u201d said Adams.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough I\u2019ve been working abroad for close to a decade now, I\u2019ve always wanted to come back to South Africa and contribute positively to the sports and cricket environment in our wonderful country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe T20 Global League is a unique opportunity for me to do just that and use my experience to further enhance and build a world class T20 competition,\u201d concluded Adams.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to congratulate Russell on his appointment. His experience over the last ten years with the IPL andhis qualifications and passion for the game makes him an ideal person for the job. We have every confidence in Russell and we are thrilled to have him as part of the T20 Global League senior team,\u201d commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.<\/p>\n

The T20 Global League will debut in the last quarter of 2017, with eight participating teams consisting of local and international cricket players. The eight T20 Global League franchises are privately owned and matches will be played across South Africa in the following cities: Benoni, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth.<\/p>\n
