\nTo help young students discover and develop a passion for innovation, science, engineering and technology, the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)LEGO League (FLL) programkicked off its 8th edition at Caterpillar facility in Chennai today.Nearly 125 students from 13 schools selected across India participated in this year’s FLL- a robotics competition for students in the age group of 9 \u2013 16.

The event, hosted by Caterpillar India as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, is designed to encourage students to explore various applications and understand the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in greater detail, while learning valuable life and employment skills.
\nThe theme for this year wasHydro Dynamics. It revolved around the key aspects of source, transport, use, importance and disposal of water. With hydro dynamism as the theme for this edition, teams solved a real-world problem in the Project. They also built, tested, and programmed an autonomous robot using technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, students operated under the FIRST LEGO League signature set of core values, celebrating discovery, and teamwork through professionalism.
\n\u201cAs a technology driven organisation, Caterpillar considers events like these as an opportunity to give back to the community where we live in, in our very own way. This robotics event encourages students to work together as a team and helps in enhancing their STEM principles and thereby helps in grooming the future innovators, who would continue to make significant contributions in creating a bettertomorrow\u201d said BhuvanAnandakrishnan, Director \u2013Engineering and Technology Center, Caterpillar India.
\nParticipants from previous editions of FLL take the role of an in-house expert for the new teams. The winners of this FLL edition will win the entry to the FIRST National Level Robotics Challenge with Caterpillar sponsorship for the travel. FLL being a global robotics and innovation program held in over 70 countries gives students an international recognition.
