Chennai, January 27th<\/sup>, 2018:<\/strong>Gleneagles Global Health City,\u00a0the largest facility of Gleneagles Global\u00a0Hospitals,\u00a0a Parkway Pantai enterprise,\u00a0hosted the 8th<\/sup>\u00a0edition of Master Class in Liver Disease (MCLD) 2017, titled,\u2018Liver Disease and Transplantation \u2013 Care of the Critically Ill\u2019.The MCLD was conductedfrom 26th \u2013 27th January, 2018 at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai. The MCLD conference witnessed a wide spread and enthusiastic participation from India and across the world that included about 800 specialist Liver surgeons, Hepatologists, intensive care physicians and Liver Anaesthetists and about 50\u00a0 international and national faculty\u00a0 of high repute.ThiruEdappadi K. Palaniswami, Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu<\/strong>inaugurated the event.Dr. C. VijayaBaskar, Minister of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, IAS, Principal Secretary \u2013 Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu,\u00a0Dr. K.\u00a0Ravindranath, Chairman, Gleneagles Global Hospitals,\u00a0Dr Tan See\u00a0Leng, Group Chief Operating Officer, Parkway Pantai Limited,\u00a0Mr. Ramesh Krishnan, Chief Executive Officer, India Operations Division, Parkway Pantai Limited\u00a0and\u00a0Dr\u00a0Jagprag Singh Gujral, Group COO, Gleneagles Global Hospitals\u00a0<\/strong>were also present at the programme.<\/p>\n

Ms.Baebhen, a young law student from UK, who underwent liver transplantation 20 years ago was felicitated by Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister. Ms.Baebhen was transplanted when she was only 5 days old by Prof. Mohamed Rela, the world renowned liver transplant surgeon who belongs to Tamil Nadu, and who at that time was at King’s College, London. Prof.Rela also holds the Guinness book of world records for this feat, doing a liver transplantation on the youngest patient in the world.<\/p>\n

The ‘Master Class in Liver Disease’ (MCLD) series was envisaged by\u00a0Prof Mohamed Rela, Chairman &Director – Institute of Liver Disease & Transplantation, Gleneagles Global Health City,\u00a0<\/strong>as a means to deliver high quality teaching in the field of liver disease and transplantation. Since its inception in 2011, the MCLD has established itself as one of the most popular scientific meetings in the Indian sub-continent. Each edition is planned as a single themeconference with participation by national & international experts in the field of Adult &PediatricHepatology, Hepatobiliary surgery and Liver Transplantation. Prof. Roger Williams, who is considered the doyen of liver transplantation and is credited with starting the liver transplant programme at King’s College, London, enlightened enthralled\u00a0 the audience at the MCLD with his experiences during the evolution of transplantation in his talk titled “The Story of my Life”.<\/p>\n

As part of the event, National Foundation for Liver Disease (NFLR), a trust which promotes organ donation and research in liver disease organised a dinner on 26th<\/sup>January to celebrate “The success of Liver transplantation\u201d.<\/p>\n
